Hey There!

This site is dedicated to me. Bit of an egomaniac you say? Byte me. Anyways, this place is for people who know me, want to track down e-mail addresses of mutual friends, my life story, blah, blah, blah. Keep in mind it's loaded with inside jokes
and references

Daily Grind

2008-Oct-02: Johanna and Sandy were talking, now there’s plans to do the Mad Mud Run this November in Phoenix, it is a 5 mile obstacle course while that sounds impressive they give you almost 3 hours to do it and you can dress up in costumes, I cc’d the e-mail over to Juanita - she was my high school sweet heart and now lives in Phoenix, I’m hoping she’ll show up to cheer me on

2008-Sep-24: damn you Ivan Reitman, I remember watching Stripes and laughing my ass off as John Larroquette was peeping into the women’s shower with binoculars from across the street, all the while saying “Oh that’s it baby/you’re a dirty girl/soap them up/etc” Every time I see a girl in the shower that scene pops into my brain. What’s the problem with that? Well I like to think I’m a progressive person, accepting of people’s lifestyles. But, after exercising at the gym I went to shower and there was a guy there cleaning the stalls, he was obviously gay and I felt completely self conscious about showering in front of him. Do I shower with my back to him? then my butt is exposed. Do I face him then he’ll be playing his own Larroquette movie scene.

2008-Jul: flew back to Baltimore for the week, it was my mother’s 70th birthday so we planned a surprise party or her. I wound up staying at Lori’s and Joe’s place, while it was nice to see everyone Wezzie and I had a chance to hang out, just the two for us for a few hours while prepping. It was great, I don’t recall the two of us doing that as adults.

2008-Jul-4: Johanna and Jason threw a holiday party, I showed up with my supply of fireworks. Jason can’t throw a party without a poker game. At the first game I saw Jon-Paul wanted to play so I excused myself and went to hang out with the wives. That’s the point where Isabelle lost some hair from the fireworks - can’t stand the smell of burning hair. Try as I may, I couldn’t get Jason’s mother to light and throw any bottle rockets. The second poker game I had a couple too many drinks and played even though Jon-Paul wanted to play. Sure enough I was completely irritated with his playing.

2008-Jun-23: I’m getting snobbier, I met up with Lisa for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, while the chow there is tasty it’s tasty in the same way Olive Garden is tasty, sort of a mass marketed/consumer tested/non-threatening food

2008-Jun-22: Chandra and I headed out to the High Plains geocache that Johanna and I planted back in Dec 2006, my GPS wasn’t tuning in the satellites so I had to find the box by memory, once I found it I guided Chandra in with a ‘getting colder, now warmer’ instructions

2008-Jun-20: met up with Ruth on Friday night, there’s a fairly new bar in town called The Griffin, it was a pretty fun place, there was Sarah the German girl we met, of course Ruth tried convincing me she was an au pare nanny/hooker but that was just Ruth being a bitch

2008-Jun-18: Johanna grabbed some grub and a movie and headed over to my house for a bit, it’s been awhile since we’ve hung out like that, mostly we meet up at a casino for a movie and some food, it a different dynamic when you’re chilling at home

2008-Jun-07: doggie duty this weekend, I’m surprised they remember how to roll over for treats considering it is just me reinforcing that trick, other than that they enjoyed their doggie park visits, too bad the British chick is no longer going there with her doggie

2008-May-12: Jerry, the unemployed bum, arrived in town for a week, he was in the neighborhood (AZ) and figured he could squeeze in some time for a visit, good thing too my Amigo wasn’t going to fix itself, granted I let it sit there for the better part of a year hoping that it would, he just can’t help himself, he always needs to be fixing/tinkering with something, we met up with Chandra and Elizabeth for drinks one night, I think the he and Chandra could be a successful couple

2008-May-04: there’s been some hub-bub about using steel shipping containers as housing. Personally I like the idea. There is a surplus of the containers since Americans import (consume) much more than we export. They are an ISO (world wide) standard which means moving them around is fairly easy. There are plans to build some basic shelter containers as emergency housing. I guess as long as they don’t use too much formaldehyde, like in the Katrina trailers, things should be fine. While looking into this I tripped over the following site. I can’t believe this is a real project. It’s kind of a mix between concentration camps, slavery, and a company town where you can never get ahead.

2008-May-03: Iron Man rocks

2008-May-02: a fun First Friday, Jason and Johanna joined Ruth and I for some mexican chow and street wandering. If you do the BookCrossing.com thing look me up - I’m rich2012. My first release to the wild was after the Friday cleanup.

2008-Mar-28: Nelda wound up in the hospital so I flew down for a visit,

2008-Mar-25: if it had been 7 gallons of Soft Scrub I would not have minded the
30% missing, if it was 30% less toilet paper in the mega-case I would have been more creative with my wiping, but 30% missing out of my ice cream purchase? I don’t think so. The girl at the Costco return counter look at me oddly when I demanded a refund - don’t mess with my ice cream purchases,

2008-Mar-23: it’s a Don Johnson weekend. There were plans to go visit Johanna’s parents for Easter. Mo put a stop to that , he was all cranky and feverish so he wasn’t sleeping well which translated into Jason and Johanna not looking forward to a 5 hr trip (driving time). The upshot is that I watched some movies and hung around the house. The Hot Spot, starring Don Johnson but more importantly Jennifer Connelly, was a Christmas gift I finally got around to watching. I also found a nice public domain movie site. These are movies that the owner has let the copyright expire on. Hence they are available to everyone. The odd thing is you can put these on DVD and sell them yourself. You can’t take credit for them but you can make money off of them. Anyway, while trolling the movie list I found A Boy and His Dog from 1975. Here Don Johnson scavenges with a dog that telepathically talks back.

2008-Mar-16: I received an email from Elizabeth, I’m so irritated with her I can’t imagine speaking with her until fall

2008-Mar-15: the band Skin Dread sucks - kind of thrash metal, not my
style. However, they opened for
Gogol Bordello which were great. Gogol falls into the category of Gypsy punk, I think their sound is more folk + punk. Johanna treated me to the show and dinner for my b-day. Christina and Ari also joined us for some fun punk moshing. Christina and Ari remember Gogol as an opening band for Cake during their Unlimited Sunshine tour. I remember them from a Flogging Molly night o’ punk that Johanna and I went to few years past. This was my first time at the Canyon Club at the 4 Queens. A fun little venue. Keep in mind they are a cash only club which by itself is rather odd for Vegas.

2008-Mar-14: Lanae treated me to dinner at Trade Vic’s, I never knew they the original Vic guy invented the Mai Tai. After dinner we caught a bit of Stomp (poor timing) and then headed back to the bar for another drink.

2008-Feb-21: ski trip to Brian Head

2008-Feb: Jerry and I have a bet going as to whether or not there will be a Obama/Clinton ticket. I say no way but Jerry thinks otherwise. There’s a box of Ding Dongs on the line here.
